Summary:

Mortenson's Portland office is currently seeking a Senior Project Accountant who has the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

The ideal candidate will provide accounting, analysis, and financial support to a project team, and perform various accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

Understand and implement the construction contract requirements larger and/or more complex projects

  • Utilize the contract summary in relation to scope and areas of work: oversee project budget, approved change orders, and budget transfers
  • Perform budget allocations for any project, ensuring allocations conform with contract terms
  • Assist the project manager in preparing monthly financial projections, including potential cost issues that may impact forecasted costs and profitability
  • Answer general questions on PCIM policy or system
  • Provide assistance in complying with various other contract requirements; i.e., certified payroll reporting, minority participation reporting, or providing necessary information to maintain insurance for the project
  • Assist in tracking subcontractor lien waivers if necessary

Process and/or supervise receivables processing to result in a favorable project cash flow

  • Prepare cost-plus or cost-plus GMP contract billings, ensuring all allowable costs are billed in a timely manner
  • May prepare lump sum billings in lieu of the Project Manager
  • Enter project billings into the system for lump sum billings
  • Ensure cash receipts are posted to the correct invoice
  • Work with the project team to assure timely payment receipt
  • Elevate awareness of financial implications that can be addressed or reversed

Process and/or supervise payables processing with an accurate application of the sales and use tax requirements for the jurisdiction of the project

  • Provide new vendor set-up information, coordinate payments, and daily issuances as needed
  • Set up new subcontracts and process subcontractor applications when appropriate
  • Review equipment pre-bill reports and work with Project Manager to ensure accuracy
  • Ensure all project costs (equipment, material, supplies, misc.) are processed

Conduct project cost, other analyses, and reporting for the project team and Group Accounting Manager

  • Understand what is impacting the project costs, identify anything that is improperly impacting an assigned project
  • Assist with preparation of financial, ad hoc, and/or specialized reporting requested by group leaders

Understand the relevant components of labor cost in the geographic area of the project

  • Includes union agreement details, benefit programs, and prevailing wage requirements
  • Review certified payroll reports for accuracy and completeness

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Answer general questions on PCIM policy or system
  • Represent Mortenson's best interests in working with project auditors
  • Assist with annual and special audits as necessary
  • Assist with annual physical inventory procedures as necessary

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Minimum seven years accounting experience
  • Minimum 2 years of construction or manufacturing accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Oracle and job costing experience is a plus
  • Large project experience desired
  • Ability to understand increasingly more complex construction business concepts
  • Detail orientation and organizational skills sufficient to support multiple concurrent projects
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, as well as experience with ERP accounting applications
  • Effective communication and active listening skills with those of diverse organizational levels and backgrounds
