About the opportunity

Are you passionate about high quality environmental work, innovation, and superior client service? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, self-motivated Natural Resources Project Manager with strong interpersonal skills and experience in natural resources management and biological studies. This individual will successfully drive our projects through all phases from early planning and permitting to construction.

This Natural Resources Project Manager should have technical experience in a range of activities such as biological and wetland surveys; federal, state and local wetland regulations; Endangered Species Act compliance; Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permitting; and agency interactions at all levels. Skills include the ability to manage small to medium-sized projects, and track milestones within schedule and budget expectations. You will also support or be responsible for QA/QC oversight of field data to support report-writing and permitting.

This is a regular (with benefits), full-time position working in a hybrid fashion within the greater Boston area. The successful candidate should be located within regular commuter distance to Southborough office or able to regularly commute to the office. The pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience. This requisition can hire at three levels:

  • Assistant Project Manager - Natural Resources; typically, with up to three (3) years of relevant experience and expertise
  • Associate Project Manager - Natural Resources; typically, with up to five (5) years of relevant experience and expertise.
  • Project Manager - Natural Resources; typically, with up to seven (7) years of relevant experience and expertise.

Individuals with additional project management experience as natural resources consultants are also encouraged to apply.

What you will accomplish

  • Serve as project manager for small and medium-sized natural resources tasks and projects, including maintaining budgets, schedules, safety, and quality of service.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide project technical support to staff-level biologists and field staff.
  • Take initiative and resolve issues to assure client needs are met effectively.
  • Work with Corporate accounting department to review invoices, expenditures, and project audits for projects/tasks.
  • Implement and administer SWCA's safety procedures and standards of scientific and professional ethics.
  • Lead biological technical field assessments and wetland delineations.
  • Provide peer review for technical reports and environmental permits.
  • Develop erosion and sedimentation control plans and conduct inspections during active construction.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, natural resource management, geology, or another related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience performing environmental, ecological, or natural resources studies, surveys, or projects in the private or public sector
  • Demonstrated experience with federal and state laws such as the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and Regulations, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and other state/local agencies.

Preferred

  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience performing environmental, ecological, or natural resources studies, surveys, or projects in the private or public sector; with at least one (1) year as a natural resources project manager.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising, mentoring, and providing leadership for other professionals.
  • Professional Certifications including PWS, NHCWS, CESSWI, Registered (Professional) Soil Scientist.
  • Experience working with renewable energy, oil & gas, transportation, and public utilities.
  • Experience and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience leading and performing wetland delineations, environmental compliance inspections and reporting for active construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced work environment, and a desire to work in a highly collaborative team atmosphere.

An employee in this Boston/Southborough-based position can expect an hourly/salary rate of:

  • Assistant Project Manager - between $30.94/hour and $39.38/hour
  • Associate Project Manager - between $34.31/hour to $43.88/hour
  • Project Manager - between $78,975/year to $102,375/year

Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
